MEMORIA

Ubicada en la costa de Los Vilos, en el norte de Chile, esta vivienda se proyecta como un refugio

en estrecho diálogo con el paisaje. El objetivo fue crear una arquitectura que enmarcara el

horizonte y permitiera escuchar el mar, mientras se protegía del viento sur característico de la

zona. Esta búsqueda definió el emplazamiento y el uso de un muro continuo que resguarda los

espacios interiores, sin interrumpir la apertura total hacia el océano.

El acceso se resuelve mediante un piso tipo rampa que conecta el estacionamiento con el ventanal

del hall de entrada, como un paseo gradual que prepara al visitante para el encuentro con el mar.

Este gesto se complementa con patios interiores que organizan la planta, aportando luz natural,

ventilación cruzada y una transición fluida entre los distintos ambientes.

La vivienda se desarrolla en un solo nivel, con un esquema lineal que une el acceso con el área

social y la terraza con piscina. Los espacios comunes estar, comedor y cocina se abren

completamente hacia el paisaje mediante grandes ventanales, mientras que los dormitorios se

sitúan en los extremos, resguardando su privacidad pero siempre conectados con las vistas al mar

y la luz natural filtrada por los patios.

Los aleros son una pieza central de la arquitectura. Proyectados como extensiones horizontales,

controlan la radiación solar, crean sombra y diluyen el límite entre el interior y el exterior. La

estructura de estos aleros se compone de vigas de acero tratadas para resistir la corrosión marina,

integradas en la cubierta como parte del diseño y la durabilidad de la casa.

La materialidad se mantiene sobria y honesta: hormigón visto en los muros principales, madera

que aporta calidez y textura, y grandes paños de vidrio que reflejan y capturan el paisaje costero.

La combinación de estos materiales, junto con el diseño de patios y aleros, crea un microclima

confortable y un vínculo permanente con el mar.

La casa Rima es un refugio silencioso, pensado para habitar el paisaje costero con una experiencia

sensorial completa: sentir el viento filtrado, escuchar el mar y contemplar el horizonte en calma.

Located on the coast of Los Vilos, in northern Chile, this residence is conceived as a refuge in close

dialogue with the landscape. The aim was to create architecture that frames the horizon and allows

the sound of the sea to be heard, while providing shelter from the southern winds characteristic of

the area. This intention defined both the site placement and the use of a continuous wall that

protects the interior spaces without interrupting the full opening toward the ocean.

Access is resolved through a ramp-like floor that connects the parking area to the entrance hall’s

large window, acting as a gradual promenade that prepares the visitor for the encounter with the

sea. This gesture is complemented by interior courtyards that organize the floor plan, bringing

natural light, cross-ventilation, and a smooth transition between the different spaces.

The house unfolds on a single level, with a linear scheme linking the entrance to the social area and

the terrace with pool. The common spaces living room, dining room, and kitchen open fully toward

the landscape through expansive windows, while the bedrooms are located at the ends, preserving

privacy yet remaining connected to ocean views and the natural light filtered through the courtyards.The eaves are a central element of the architecture. Designed as horizontal extensions, they control

solar radiation, provide shade, and dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors. Their

structure is made of steel beams treated to resist marine corrosion, integrated into the roof as part

of both the design and the house’s long-term durability.

The material palette is kept sober and honest: exposed concrete for the main walls, wood to add

warmth and texture, and large glass panels that capture and reflect the coastal scenery. The

combination of these materials, together with the courtyards and eaves, creates a comfortable

microclimate and a lasting connection with the sea.

The Rima House is a quiet retreat, designed to inhabit the coastal landscape through a complete

sensory experience: feeling the filtered wind, listening to the sea, and contemplating the horizon in stillness.
